In this blog post, I will tell you about some of the fun things we did for Sage’s first space themed birthday party. Though we are in quarantine and we could not have a huge party, there were some things I didn’t want to miss out on.
Space Themed Balloon Arch
I ordered this space themed ballon arch from amazon. Though I was so scared of balloon arches, I put on my brave face and tried it. The result: it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I followed these tips from @annaclairetadlock on instagram. She is a balloon arch queen. I think it turned out great.
What went wrong? We did put up the arch a few hours before the cake smashing. The mixture of it being super hot outside combined with the fact the we put the arch on the metal garage door was not great. About half the balloons were gone by the time it was time for cake. We reworked the arch the best we could and let the popped balloons roll off our back. I was not going to let something this tiny ruin such a fun day.
Space Themed Birthday Cake
I am pretty specific about my kids diet for the first two years of their lives. I wanted Sage to have a refined sugar free, dairy free cake. When James turned one, We got a raw vegan cheesecake from a local raw restaurant in Nashville. With no local raw restaurants in town, I decided to make one myself.
I wanted the cake to fit the space theme so I searched galaxy raw vegan cheesecake on Pinterest and found this cake. It was easy enough to make once I had the ingredients and Sage loved it. There was no information about how long the cake should be out of the freezer before its eaten. I would recommend taking it out of the freezer at least an hour before smash time.
Space Themed Birthday Party Extras
To continue the space party theme but keep the cost minimal, I added these cupcake toppers to boxed cake for our guests. We also made a spaceship out of a large cardboard box. My sweet sister made Sage a space themed tee shirt. I printed off these planet flashcards for inside the spaceship, and that was pretty much it.
